Dr. Joseph Johnson


Minister Dr. Joseph Sheldon Johnson, founder and chief executive minister of Man-Up Help-Meet Ministries is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and is the husband of Elder Dr. Regina Johnson and they are the proud parents of J. Austin, Ramona and son-in-law, Melecio. Having graduated with honors from Lincoln University, Lincoln, Pennsylvania, Dr. Johnson earned a Master of Human Services Degree with a course concentration in action research, management principles and strategies for nonprofit organizations, and problem solving skills designed to improve the nation’s social service delivery system. Subsequently, he attended Norfolk Theological Seminary and College where he received a Doctor of Ministry Degree, with a course concentration in “Organizational Leadership and Management.” 

Additionally, his undergraduate studies in community planning and development, criminal justice services and management, pre-master’s human services studies, and religious studies, respectfully was at Federal City College (currently the University of the District of Columbia), Washington, D.C., Christopher Newport University, Newport News, VA., Lincoln University, Philadelphia, PA., and Evan-Smith Leadership Training Institute c/c The Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology of Virginia Union University, Richmond, VA.

Minister Johnson’s civic and social affiliations include being a lifetime member of the NAACP.  He has served three terms as a civic league president, two terms as an appointed Commissioner with the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board for City of Chesapeake, VA, CEO/President of Hampton Roads Fraternal Order of Police, the Portsmouth Minority Police Officers Association, and Hampton Roads Virginia Chapter of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE). He served nationally as the Special Assistant to two NOBLE National Presidents and one term as the NOBLE National Treasurer.  

            Minister Johnson is committed to serving the Body of Christ and has been very active in his church where he has served in the Hospitality and Tape Ministries; as vice chairman of the Trustee Ministry, and as the Church Treasurer.  He has also served in the diaconate ministry as an ordained deacon.   He is a current member of Empower Believers Christian Learning Center in Hampton, VA; under the spiritual guidance of Pastor John A. Young.
